Whether an established importer/distributor or a new one, sourcing suitable fine wines can be time consuming, requires advance preparation, deep knowledge of wine regions, and available resources. Sometimes finding the right winery during a trip is just a matter of, well, luck. Wineries produce several wines, each harvest is different, each producer has its own philosophy, and the diversity is huge. This is the beauty of wine – and the challenge for the buyer.

Of course, a lot of information is available online, and it is possible to travel, but there are hundreds and thousands of wineries in each area, including opportunities that cannot be found online. A winery that might look good "on paper" may not be suitable because of wine quality, taste, range of wines, production capacity, logistic capabilities, available quantities, prices, philosophy, wine producing methods and other criteria that could be important to a particular buyer.
